Ep10 - Murphy’s Law of Combat

This episode is all about Murphy’s Law of Combat and how it pertains to DEFENSIVE cybersecurity. This episode is one of Stuart’s favorite topics and we had a lot of fun selecting a few of the laws to discuss and apply to the work we do. Settle into your seat and let’s secure the frontiers of ES.

The Laws We Cover

8.  The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions: a. When you're ready for them. b. When you're not ready for them.

I think this law highlights we get dropped into a continually evolving situations. It is not academic and fresh start, just embrace it and begin working the plan.

We need to begin with our current state and build from it. Some parts may need to be added, some parts improved, and other parts removed. This includes more than just technology, processes and teams as well.

15. Anything you do can get you shot, including nothing.

Inaction can be just as damaging as incorrect action in our space. Hard to predict which will be an issue tomorrow.

We frequently see teams in the heat of a battle fighting fires but cannot get to the changes that would improve the program.

We also see projects that never get implemented, they may get installed but not shift into highly leveraged.

20. Never forget that your weapon is made by the lowest bidder.

The tools won't make you effective alone, your mastery of tools will make you successful

Teams need the space to learn the tools for their roles
